Daily Devotional: Psalms 118:1-7

Ps 118:1-7

1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. 2 Let Israel say: "His love endures forever." 3 Let the house of Aaron say: "His love endures forever." 4 Let those who fear the LORD say: "His love endures forever." 5 In my anguish I cried to the LORD, and he answered by setting me free. 6 The LORD is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? 7 The LORD is with me; he is my helper. I will look in triumph on my enemies.

Phil 4:4-7

4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

When we really trust in God, really believe that he can do all things and that he does care for us and our problems, we never have to worry. He has promised to take care of us and to provide our needs. He has given his assurance that he will never allow us to be tempted beyond what we are able to bear, but instead, he will provide a way for us to keep from sinning. His love endures forever.

We get overwhelmed with the cares of this world, with the challenges we face on a daily basis, with a flood of things that need to be done and even how to do what is right. When we turn all of these over to the Lord, he will provide. Paul says that since God has given his Son to die for our sins, we can be assured that he will now do all things for us. God has so much invested in us as his children that he cannot possibly abandon us now. God has shown his love and his love endures forever.

When Jesus walked on the water and his disciples thought he was a ghost, he said their faith was too small and they should not be afraid. When the storm arose on the sea as he was sleeping, they woke him and asked did he not care that they were perishing? He rebuked them for their lack of faith and told them to not be afraid. He told the wind and waves to stop and the sea was calm. No matter how bad the storms, he can and will and calm the sea of life. His love endures forever.

Heavenly Father I am so thankful for your love. As much as I would like to be in control of things in my life, I know I am not. Give me wisdom and strength to do what I can but in the end, give me faith to trust you for the results. When I cannot understand why things are happening as they are, give me greater faith. I ask your favor and your control over our nation. Give our leaders the wisdom to want to do what is right. Thank you for the freedoms we enjoy. Help me use them to your glory. Protect them for future generations. I pray in the name of Jesus.
