Daily Devotional: Psalms 18:37-42

Ps 18:37-42

37 I pursued my enemies and overtook them; I did not turn back till they were destroyed. 38 I crushed them so that they could not rise; they fell beneath my feet. 39 You armed me with strength for battle; you made my adversaries bow at my feet. 40 You made my enemies turn their backs in flight, and I destroyed my foes. 41 They cried for help, but there was no one to save them--to the LORD, but he did not answer. 42 I beat them as fine as dust borne on the wind; I poured them out like mud in the streets.

2 Thess 1:6-9

6 God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you 7 and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels. 8 He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.

What a friend we have in Jesus! What a privilege to be able to carry everything to him in prayer and to know that he will hear and answer. When we go to the Lord in humility and trust there is no end to what he can and will do for us.

There is coming a day when we will be able to see him as he is and we will have a glorified body instead of this mortal house of clay. When we see him in all his glory and we behold the beauties of that eternal home, we will be in awe beyond anything we can imagine here on earth. What a wonderful day that will be when we can sing praises with the myriads of heavenly hosts. Praise the Lord!

When we view heaven as our home and we look at this earth from a heavenly perspective, we see that for the child of God, death is attaining the victory and is not defeat. The battles we face and the trials that come to our lives are but small things in the overall picture of why we are here. It is these that build our faith and prepare us for that home. Every temptation that we overcome makes us stronger and it also prepares us to help others in their battles against sin and suffering.

Therefore, we don’t seek revenge but leave vengeance up to God because he is a just God and will take care of all wrongs. We pray for our enemies and show them love, kindness and forgiveness. In doing this, we leave room for the wrath of God.

O Lord my God, I am so thankful for your marvelous love shown to me in Jesus and his sacrifice on my behalf. I want to be like him in every way, so I need your wisdom, your strength and power to overcome all that I face in life. Use me to lift others up when they fall. Help me understand your word so I can live it and show others Jesus living in me. Give me the ability to use every opportunity to teach others the truth in love. Please be with those who face sickness, pain and suffering and give them your healing and peace. I pray in the name of Jesus.
