Daily Devotional: Psalms 18:25-29

Ps 18:25-29

25 To the faithful you show yourself faithful, to the blameless you show yourself blameless, 26 to the pure you show yourself pure, but to the crooked you show yourself shrewd. 27 You save the humble but bring low those whose eyes are haughty. 28 You, O LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light. 29 With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall.

1 Cor 1:8-9

8 He will keep you strong to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.

I once worked for a man in a secular job that was best described as fair. It did not matter who you were, how old, your gender or race, he treated everyone the same. If there was a question, he always responded the same way; “let’s see what the manual says.” It made life easy because we always knew what to expect.

God is faithful, he is fair and he is always right. He doesn’t have to check to see what the manual says because his mind is the basis of the Bible. While God wants everyone to be saved and has made it possible for all to do so, he has promised that those who reject his grace will be lost in hell. The way to heaven is the same for everyone and has been revealed to all. Jesus said he is the way, the truth and the life and all who would come to God must do so through him.

In his word he explains to us that the basis of our salvation is being forgiven of our sins. He has made this possible by giving his Son as the atoning sacrifice for our sins. By raising Jesus from the dead he has given his guarantee that we can have eternal life in him. This forgiveness comes on the basis our faith, our complete trust in him. We must trust him enough to be willing to confess him as the Son of God and as our Lord, our master. As we follow his teaching we show our faith by turning away from our sin. We then are buried with him in baptism and raised with him through faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead. At this point our sins are forgiven and we continue to live for him by faith.

Lord God, increase my faith as I realize that your salvation is from faith unto faith in Jesus Christ and his sacrifice. Thank you for raising him from the grave to give me the assurance that I too will be raised. I praise you for your faithfulness and the peace of mind this gives me. Help me be wholly devoted to you, to your word and to your will. Open my heart to the bidding of your Spirit in every way. Keep me from all sin and make me an example of faith and faithfulness but don’t ever let me forget that I am right only by your forgiveness. In Jesus name I pray.
