Daily Devotional: Psalms 9:7-12

Ps 9:7-12

7 The LORD reigns forever; he has established his throne for judgment. 8 He will judge the world in righteousness; he will govern the peoples with justice. 9 The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. 10 Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you. 11 Sing praises to the LORD, enthroned in Zion; proclaim among the nations what he has done. 12 For he who avenges blood remembers; he does not ignore the cry of the afflicted.

John 16:31-33

31 "You believe at last!"  Jesus answered. 32 "But a time is coming, and has come, when you will be scattered, each to his own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me. 33 "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."

Paul tells us that we are more than conquerors in Jesus Christ our Lord. This is true because Jesus has already passed through this life and did so successfully and without sin. Just before he was killed, he told his disciples that he had already overcome the world! We have Jesus as our living and faithful High Priest and he is sitting at the right hand of the throne of God in heaven itself.

So not matter what we face in life, whether it be sickness, pain, suffering, mental anguish, financial ruin or we see this happening to the ones we love, we can have the final victory in Jesus Christ. This world fears death but even this for the child of God should hold no fear or dread. It is simply an announcement of victory.

But some will say that they don’t see God in control of this world because of all the wickedness and violence that prevails. Innocent people suffer and die at the hands of those who are wicked. This is nothing new because in the very first family, Cain killed his brother Abel. Why? Because Cain rejected God and sinned against him. Even then we see that God avenged the blood of Abel. He allows sin and evil but it will not go unpunished. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23)

Lord God, I am thankful that I can live with the assurance that Jesus overcame the world with his perfect life and overcame death with his resurrection from the grave. I am thankful that he lives and intercedes for me. I praise you for your wisdom that is seen in so many ways that they cannot be counted. I know you are in control of all things but I also thank you for the ability to decide for myself to serve you. Help me always use this ability to bring glory to you and honor to your holy name. Give your peace to those who are hurting. In Jesus name.
