Daily Devotional: Psalms 5:1-6

Ps 5:1-6

1 Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my sighing. 2 Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for to you I pray. 3 In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation. 4 You are not a God who takes pleasure in evil; with you the wicked cannot dwell. 5 The arrogant cannot stand in your presence; you hate all who do wrong. 6 You destroy those who tell lies; bloodthirsty and deceitful men the LORD abhors.

Col 1:9-14

10 And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 11 being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. 13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

What a blessing to have a King and Lord who loves us and wants only what is best for us. In this world there are so many in authority that seek only their own good and wellbeing with no regard for what is best for those under them. Thus almost every nation has some wicked leaders who lie to the people and are unfair in their dealings and the laws they make. They rule with a selfish attitude.

Even worse than the nations of this world is the kingdom of darkness that is ruled by Satan himself. It is from this kingdom that God has rescued us and put us in the kingdom of his dear Son, Jesus Christ. No matter where we live in the world we can be in his kingdom and know that our King is watching over us and will protect us for eternity. He has given his life for us so that we might live in him.

It is in Jesus that we can approach the Father in prayer and know that he will hear us and answer us. Since he knows what is best for us to make us ready to live with him in eternity, he will give us what we need and not always what we ask.

Heavenly Father, I am so thankful for your Son who gave his life for me and for my sin that I might live in hope of eternal life with you. I know that getting ready to be with you is not always what seems best for me but I trust you to give me what I need and train me to become more like you each day. Give me strength to lay aside every sin and wisdom to apply your word in my life. Thank you for the many fellow Christians in my life and for the joy and encouragement each is to me on a daily basis. I ask your special care and blessings on those who are sick and taking treatments and those who care for them. I pray in the name of Jesus.
