Daily Devotional: Psalms 147:12-20

Ps 147:12-20

12 Extol the LORD, O Jerusalem; praise your God, O Zion, 13 for he strengthens the bars of your gates and blesses your people within you. 14 He grants peace to your borders and satisfies you with the finest of wheat. 15 He sends his command to the earth; his word runs swiftly. 16 He spreads the snow like wool and scatters the frost like ashes. 17 He hurls down his hail like pebbles. Who can withstand his icy blast? 18 He sends his word and melts them; he stirs up his breezes, and the waters flow. 19 He has revealed his word to Jacob, his laws and decrees to Israel. 20 He has done this for no other nation; they do not know his laws. Praise the LORD.

Rom 13:1, 5

1 Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God… 5 Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience.

What would we see if we could see the world from God’s perspective? If we could know his plans, his timing and all that leads up to what he considers as major events on the earth? How would it change our view if we were holy as he is holy, or if we could see the ongoing battle between God and his forces against Satan and the forces of evil? What we consider as major world events probably do not even come close to such in his mind and plan. God is in control and it is he who allows each leader (whether we consider them good or bad doesn’t really matter) to be where they are today. He lifts up and he destroys in his time.

What if we could see our personal lives from God’s perspective? Would we see things as we see them today or would they be different? Each major event and drama we face is probably just a blip on his screen – not because he doesn’t care but in the overall course of events, it really isn’t major at all. How would it change our view of things if we really hated sin and loved what is right? Would things be different to us if we really kept our eyes focused on Jesus and on heaven? Jesus is our friend and he wants to hold our hand as we walk with him each day.

O Lord God, I thank you for giving your Son to die for my sin. Thank you for the forgiveness I have in him and the fellowship this allows with you. Thank you that he has experienced every human emotion and temptation and knows what is in me and my life and now intercedes for me. Help me open my heart to accept the wisdom you give and the strength that you afford so I can overcome every trial and temptation I face. Keep me from being selfish or proud and use me in your service according to your will. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
