Daily Devotional: Psalms 130:1-8

Ps 130:1-8

1 Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD; 2 O Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy. 3 If you, O LORD, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand? 4 But with you there is forgiveness; therefore you are feared. 5 I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I put my hope. 6 My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning. 7 O Israel, put your hope in the LORD, for with the LORD is unfailing love and with him is full redemption. 8 He himself will redeem Israel from all their sins.

Eph 1:7-10

7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace 8 that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding. 9 And he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, 10 to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment-to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ.

It does not matter in what age we live or what place we live in the world, the answer to our problems and the help in our time of need is the Lord. His people have always been able to trust him. He loves his own and is attentive to our physical and spiritual needs. He has promised to answer our prayers and he has the wisdom and power to handle any and every situation in which we may find ourselves. He can control anything he chooses to control.

It is often hard for us to let our faith get beyond our sight. We don’t see God in a physical sense nor does he speak to us today in an audible voice. But we can open our eyes and see the evidence of his creation all around us. We can open our ears and hear him speak to us through his word and in our hearts as his Spirit imparts his wisdom to us. We cannot see tomorrow nor what it holds and so our problems often overwhelm us because we see no solution. He has promised to make all things work together for our good if we love him and serve him. He is God!

Lord God, creator of heaven and earth, to you I give all praise and I want to honor your name in my life. Even though I do not see you now, I know you hear my prayer and will answer in a way that you will receive the glory. Increase my faith and help me show it in how I live for you. Use me to help others, both physically and spiritually. Give me wisdom to know what you want me to do and to become, strength to do it and proper motivation to carry it out. I ask you to be with your people all over the world and be with the church where I worship in a special way that we can be all you want us to be. I pray in Jesus name.
