Daily Devotional: Psalms 119:17-24

Ps 119:17-24   Gimel

17 Do good to your servant, and I will live; I will obey your word. 18 Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law. 19 I am a stranger on earth; do not hide your commands from me. 20 My soul is consumed with longing for your laws at all times. 21 You rebuke the arrogant, who are cursed and who stray from your commands. 22 Remove from me scorn and contempt, for I keep your statutes. 23 Though rulers sit together and slander me, your servant will meditate on your decrees. 24 Your statutes are my delight; they are my counselors.

Heb 1:1-2

1 In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe.

John 1:1-2

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning.

God’s word is revealed to us so that we might know him and all he has done for us through his Son. We should want to study his word because it reveals his mind to us and all we need to know about life and godliness. Only when we humble ourselves before God and recognize that he knows what is best for us will we be able to understand his word and put it into practice in our lives. The more we delight in his word and obeying it, the more fulfilling our lives will become.

Even though the Bible has been read and studied more than any other book and even though it has been around for centuries, it is still the most relevant book available for our modern lives. It shows us how to deal with each other in our inter-personal relationships. When we follow the teachings found in the Bible we can know how to have a good marriage, how to raise our children to live for God in an ungodly society and how to find real peace, joy and happiness in a world that is filled with turmoil, hatred, greed, bitterness and deceit.

Heavenly Father, thank you for revealing your word to us in a way that we can know and understand how to live in this crazy and wicked world. Help me want to know you better as I study your word and help me be more obedient to all you have revealed to me. Give me the proper respect for you as God, as creator and as judge and also for your Son as he reflects your exact image to me. Help me reflect his image and his glory to those around me as I let my light shine so my life will bring glory to you and honor your holy name. Thank you for all you have given me to make my life so wonderful in so many way. I pray in the name of Jesus.
