Daily Devotional: Psalms 106:42-48

Ps 106:42-48

42 Their enemies oppressed them and subjected them to their power. 43 Many times he delivered them, but they were bent on rebellion and they wasted away in their sin. 44 But he took note of their distress when he heard their cry; 45 for their sake he remembered his covenant and out of his great love he relented. 46 He caused them to be pitied by all who held them captive. 47 Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from the nations, that we may give thanks to your holy name and glory in your praise. 48 Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Let all the people say, “Amen!” Praise the LORD.

Eph 2:4-8

4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions-it is by grace you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.

Because God is God and he is righteous and just, sin must be punished. Regardless of the sin and who commits it, it is an affront to him, his holiness and his majesty so it must be punished. The wages of sin is death. Adam sinned in the garden and as a result death came into the perfect creation of God. All have sinned since the days of Adam and so death comes to all mankind. The punishment of sin does not oppose the love of God. His love is great and his mercy is rich.

It is because of his great love and his rich mercy that he sent his Son into the world to live as a man and then give his perfect life as a sacrifice on behalf of all mankind so that our sins could be forgiven. “God made him who knew no sin to become sin for us that we might become the righteousness of God in him.” He did it to show his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus. Let all the people say, “Amen!” Praise the LORD.

Rom 11:33-36 33 Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out! 34 “Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?” 35 “Who has ever given to God, that God should repay him?” 36 For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.

Thank you Lord for loving me and making it possible for me to live with you in eternity. Fill me with your great love so that I will love others as you love me. Help me have your mercy and compassion toward others so I will be forgiving toward them as you have forgiven me in Jesus Christ. Give me a pure heart so I like David, will be a man after your own heart. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
