Daily Devotional: Psalms 105:37-45

Ps 105:37-45

37 He brought out Israel, laden with silver and gold, and from among their tribes no one faltered. 38 Egypt was glad when they left, because dread of Israel had fallen on them. 39 He spread out a cloud as a covering, and a fire to give light at night. 40 They asked, and he brought them quail and satisfied them with the bread of heaven. 41 He opened the rock, and water gushed out; like a river it flowed in the desert. 42 For he remembered his holy promise given to his servant Abraham. 43 He brought out his people with rejoicing, his chosen ones with shouts of joy; 44 he gave them the lands of the nations, and they fell heir to what others had toiled for--45 that they might keep his precepts and observe his laws. Praise the LORD.

Acts 7:35-37

35 "This is the same Moses whom they had rejected with the words, 'Who made you ruler and judge?' He was sent to be their ruler and deliverer by God himself, through the angel who appeared to him in the bush. 36 He led them out of Egypt and did wonders and miraculous signs in Egypt, at the Red Sea and for forty years in the desert. 37 “This is that Moses who told the Israelites, ‘God will send you a prophet like me from your own people.’

At times we marvel how a young boy with a sling and stones from the creek could kill a giant warrior. Obviously, it is the working and power of God. But with only a shepherd’s staff and the word of God, Moses defeated an Egyptian king and his entire army while decimating and plundering the whole nation. Before the people of God left, they had asked their Egyptian neighbors to lend them their jewelry and other fine things; which they took with them. When they finally left Egypt, the agricultural economy had been ruined by the murrain on the cattle, the hail that beat down the crops and the swarms of locusts that ate every green thing that had been left. The financial and cultural world was destroyed by the death of the oldest son in every family – from the house of the king down to the lowest of the peasants. Then as a grand finale, the army followed Israel into the waters of the Red Sea and God destroyed them with their chariots and horses. God had promised Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and God keeps his word. Praise the LORD!

I thank you God that you are faithful and your word is always true. Thank you for keeping your promises to Israel, to the nations then and to me and our world today. Thank you for giving your Son to die for my sin and for raising him from the grave to prove you are over all things – even over death. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your family and one of your people today. Help me live for you in everything I do and everything I say. I pray in the name of Jesus.
