Daily Devotional: Psalms 100:1-5

Ps 100:1-5

1 Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth. 2 Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. 3 Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. 4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. 5 For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.

1 Peter 1:3-5

3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade-kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

When we truly grasp the concept that we belong to God because he made us, it takes away any and every excuse we might make for not obeying him. To admit that we are his sheep and he provides our pasture is to admit that we owe him all we have and all we may ever become. It is for these reasons that we worship him with gladness. God loves a cheerful giver and that includes our worship and our obedience in everyday holy living. The Lord is our God.

But not only is he the only real God who actually made all that exists, he is love and he is kind; filled with compassion and mercy. He has actually provided us with everything we need to live a life of godliness. He has given us a way to have all of our sins forgiven in his Son so that our slate with him is clean. In the blood of Jesus our sins are removed from the sight of God as far as the east is from the west, never to be remembered again.

He also loves us now and wants what is best for us today. He is ever with us and is near to us so that he knows what we face each moment. When it seems that all the world has crashed in on us and that there is nowhere to go and no one to turn to, we can go to God through Jesus Christ and be assured he knows what we face and just what we need to overcome. He is our loving Savior and our friend.

Heavenly Father, I am so thankful that you have given me the life I live. Thank you for the family into which I was born and for the many friends you have put in my life. I am so thankful for the blessings in Jesus Christ. It is such a blessing to be a part of your family and to have so many brothers and sisters that are a constant encouragement to me. Use me Lord to be a help to others. Help me live your will every day so I can show Jesus to those around me. I ask you to give your peace and healing to those who are sick and hurting. I pray in Jesus name.
