Daily Devotional: Psalms 44:23-26

Ps 44:23-26

23 Awake, O Lord! Why do you sleep? Rouse yourself! Do not reject us forever. 24 Why do you hide your face and forget our misery and oppression? 25 We are brought down to the dust; our bodies cling to the ground. 26 Rise up and help us; redeem us because of your unfailing love.

Rom 8:38-39

38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The love of God in Jesus Christ is unfailing. It is the nature of God to love us and he could no more unlove us than we could unspeak a word that has come from our mouths. God loves us because he is God and we are his creation. The only thing that can separate us from the love of God in Christ our Lord is if we choose to be separated from him. In Romans 8:33 Paul says He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? How could God withhold his love from us after giving his Son to die for us?

So when problems come into our lives and we don’t understand why or we don’t see the answers from God, we must not give up on him or think he does not see or care and is not taking care of us. God is so much greater and wiser and is so much more loving than we can imagine and he always keeps his word to us. He will answer our prayers and he will fill our needs. We must trust him in good or bad and whether we understand or not.

In fact, how much faith does it take to trust God if we see his working and we think we understand what he is doing and why? Real faith is when we don’t see and we don’t understand and we follow him and his will for us anyway and without question or reservation.

O God, my heavenly Father, I thank you for your love, your unfailing love for me; even when I know I don’t deserve to be loved and have failed you in so many ways. Help me in my weakness, lift me when I fall and use me in your will to help others live for you and serve you. Forgive me when I fail. Thank you for the many friends who help me in so many ways. Give me wisdom to know what to say but also to know when to say it and when to keep my mouth shut. Help me be kind and show others your love in all I do. Please give your healing and your blessings to those who are taking treatments for cancer. I pray in the name of Jesus.
