Daily Devotional: Psalms 31:1-5

Ps 31:1-5

1 In you, O LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame; deliver me in your righteousness. 2 Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue; be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me. 3 Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me. 4 Free me from the trap that is set for me, for you are my refuge. 5 Into your hands I commit my spirit; redeem me, O LORD, the God of truth.

Heb 7:23-25

23 Now there have been many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office; 24 but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. 25 Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.

In the words of Daniel, “My God is able to deliver me.” This was based on the knowledge that God will not forsake us and he is greater than all evil combined that may rise up against us. But God can deliver us from the things we consider as minor irritations as well as the major hurdles we face. God sees, he knows, he understands and best of all, he cares. Jesus is always with us.

We can go to the postal office and buy what they call “forever” stamps. Once you purchase these stamps, they can be used no matter what the price of postage may be at some later date. However, when we subscribe to a magazine, there is a date when the subscription runs out and we no longer can enjoy them. We all understand what an expiration date means whether it is on food, medicine or on subscriptions or a warranty of some kind.

Our relationship with God in Jesus Christ is forever. As long as we serve him and remain faithful to him, he will not leave us, forsake us or turn his back on us. Who can separate us from the love of God? There is no power on earth, in heaven or hell that can tear us away from his love. This is because our relationship with him is maintained by our faith and by his continued forgiveness. Jesus is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.

Thank you God for loving me enough to provide salvation through your Son. I know I don’t deserve to approach you on my own and that my sin is a stench in your sight but I also know you have given your Son to die for my sin so I can be forgiven and be your child. Keep me from sin, give me a pure heart and fill me with your wisdom, your love, compassion and your peace. Fill me with your Spirit and mold me into your image. Keep me from ever thinking I have accomplished anything on my own; all glory is yours. I pray in the name of Jesus.
