Daily Devotional: Psalms 18:12-15

Ps 18:12-15

12 Out of the brightness of his presence clouds advanced, with hailstones and bolts of lightning. 13 The LORD thundered from heaven; the voice of the Most High resounded. 14 He shot his arrows and scattered the enemies, great bolts of lightning and routed them. 15 The valleys of the sea were exposed and the foundations of the earth laid bare at your rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of breath from your nostrils.

Rom 8:35-39

35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written: "For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered." 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

What a wonderful God we serve! He is not bound by the physical problems we face in life and he is does not operate on a whim. His power is invincible and his love is unbounding. Our God is love and he cannot be separated from those who love him and serve him in faith.

In the Old Testament when his people were confronted with enemies that were far too great for them to defeat, he told them to just do what he said and watch his salvation. He sent the hail stones and the lightening against their enemies and they were defeated without the strength of the people. When Israel marched around Jericho, it was not their power that felled the walls but it was God who made them fall. But even in the great fall, he spared Rahab who had trusted in him. God is able to defeat all enemies, both physical and spiritual.

He will empower us to live for him and become all he wants us to be. He will use whatever we face for our good; to make us stronger and more like him. Our God is a consuming fire but he is love.

O Lord our Lord, how excellent is your name in all the earth. Your greatness and your majesty is beyond my ability to comprehend and yet I know I can come to you and you will hear my every word. Thank you for your love shown to me in Jesus and the forgiveness you have provided through his work. Help me not forget this great love and to show it to you in return as I live for you. Give me ability to lead others to you also. Please be with our nation and give us leaders that will revere you, your name and your word. I pray in the name of Jesus.
