Daily Devotional: Psalms 10:1-6

Ps 10:1-6

1 Why, O LORD, do you stand far off? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble? 2 In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak, who are caught in the schemes he devises. 3 He boasts of the cravings of his heart; he blesses the greedy and reviles the LORD. 4 In his pride the wicked does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God. 5 His ways are always prosperous; he is haughty and your laws are far from him; he sneers at all his enemies. 6 He says to himself, "Nothing will shake me; I'll always be happy and never have trouble."

Jude 17-21

17 But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold. 18 They said to you, "In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires." 19 These are the men who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit. 20 But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit. 21 Keep yourselves in God's love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.

The world is filled with people who ignore God. They go their own way and seem to prosper. They have no regard for the word of God or what he declares to be morally right or wrong. They scoff at those who would serve and who show respect for his will. Because of this attitude, the world is filled with greed and violence. But where is God in all this? Does he see? Does he not know?

Yes, he sees and he knows. His heart is torn within him because so many have rejected him and seek their own way. I feel sure that as in the days of Noah, he is sorry at times that he even made mankind. He saw the wickedness of Sodom and Gomorrah and he sees it today.

What we as his children can do is live for him and seek to reach out to others and show them his love. Instead of bemoaning how bad others are, we can be filled with compassion for them and share the gospel with them. We can pray for them (even those we consider our enemies) and seek their good. We can let our light shine so that others will see our good works and glorify God.

Heavenly Father, thank you for loving me and forgiving me for all I have done against you. Give me wisdom to understand your word so I can first live it in my own life and then be able to teach others. Give me a heart of compassion for those who are wandering through life as lost sheep without a shepherd. Use me to reach out to share your saving gospel with them. Fill me with your Spirit so I can be more like you and your Son. I humbly pray in his name.
