Daily Devotional: Psalms 105:42-45

Psalms 105:42-45

42 For he remembered his holy promise given to his servant Abraham. 43 He brought out his people with rejoicing, his chosen ones with shouts of joy; 44 he gave them the lands of the nations, and they fell heir to what others had toiled for--45 that they might keep his precepts and observe his laws. Praise the LORD.

As we go through our lives, we face many temptations, troubles, sorrows, and trials. Most of these are just “normal” for life and it does not matter who we are or what our circumstances, we will face these in time. While it is true that some come as the result of bad decisions, it is also true that many seem to be random and more by chance than anything else. Life is not fair, it never has been and it never will be. If we live, we will have problems.

The good news is that God has promised to take care of his own. He has promised that he will never allow us to be tempted beyond what we are able to bear. He has also promised that with every temptation, he will provide a way of escape. In addition to these promises, he also tells us that whatever comes into our lives, he will use it for our good.

What is even better news is that God always keeps his promises. God cannot lie because he is God and that is a part of his very nature. There may be times that it seems God has forgotten his promises. We can be sure that the children of Israel serving as slaves in Egypt often thought God had forgotten the promises he had made to Abraham. He had not forgotten but was just waiting until the time was right for his purposes to be fulfilled. Just because we don’t see God working at the moment in our lives does not mean he is not keenly aware of what we are facing or that he has forgotten us and his promises to us. He will keep his word, in his time and in his way and it will be the right time and right way.

These principles are true in our personal lives, in our homes, in our churches and also in our governments – from local to national. God is in control and he will work things according to his plan when he is ready. Our responsibility is that we trust him, do his will and spend much time in prayer. God will do his part.

O God, my heavenly Father, I thank you for your love for me. I know I have been blessed beyond what I need and what I deserve. I thank you for my family, both my physical family and your spiritual family in Christ. Fill my heart with gratitude and increase my faith so I will be always at peace with you, with others and with myself. Help me rejoice always in Jesus Christ with the assurance that you will keep your promises to me and will always do what is best for me. Use me to help others. Give me wisdom to see the doors of opportunity you open for me and help me go in each to do your will. I pray in the name of Jesus.
