Daily Devotional: Psalm 93:1-5

Psalm 93:1-5

1 The LORD reigns, he is robed in majesty; the LORD is robed in majesty and is armed with strength. The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved. 2 Your throne was established long ago; you are from all eternity. 3 The seas have lifted up, O LORD, the seas have lifted up their voice; the seas have lifted up their pounding waves. 4 Mightier than the thunder of the great waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea--the LORD on high is mighty. 5 Your statutes stand firm; holiness adorns your house for endless days, O LORD.

I am going to borrow an illustration my dad used many years ago. He said he once had an old hound dog that would howl all night at a full moon but in spite of the loud protests by the dog, the moon did not change or go away. No matter how much people may protest the idea of God or the validity of his word, he does not change nor does his word. God is forever and his word is always truth.

We may not like what he tells us or we may object to his way for our lives but God knows what is best. We often recite Paul’s statement to the Ephesians that all spiritual blessings are in Christ but we may overlook the many physical blessings we have in him also. When we submit our lives to him we will have the happiest life possible. Jesus called this the abundant life.

This does not mean we will never face trials, sickness or even persecution. It does mean that God will be with us and through all we encounter we will be able to rejoice in the Lord and have his indescribable peace in our hearts. The world does not and cannot know this peace that God affords his own. The world is unable to live with the hope of eternity that gives meaning to all we do and all we are. They see the “end” as just that or live with some fantasy that does not conform to the reality of God’s word.

We thank God for his presence in our lives and the knowledge that he will never forsake us, no matter what we face. We praise him for his majesty as we see his mighty works all around us each day. Even as he is from eternity, we rest in the promise that we will go with him into eternity when we leave this temporary place and our earthly bodies we know in this life.

Heavenly Father, I praise you for your majesty, your power, your wisdom and your holiness. I know that I cannot really understand or fathom your greatness or just how awesome you are but you have revealed enough to me that I can know you are God, creator and ruler of all the universe. Yet, I am held in awe that you can know me and love me enough to give your Son to die for my sin so I can live for you now and with you in eternity. Thank you Lord for giving me parents who loved you. Give me a loving heart today. I pray in the name of Jesus.
