Daily Devotional: Psalm 92:1-5

Psalm 92:1-5

1 It is good to praise the LORD and make music to your name, O Most High, 2 to proclaim your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night, 3 to the music of the ten-stringed lyre and the melody of the harp. 4 For you make me glad by your deeds, O LORD; I sing for joy at the works of your hands. 5 How great are your works, O LORD, how profound your thoughts!

God in his infinite wisdom created the amazing human body. Medical science is still trying to figure how some parts of it work. Other fields of science are working on computers and robots that can imitate how the human mind works or how the human eye works. The point is that the perfect standard in these quests is so often what God has created. When God saw it was good, it was good.

When God tells us how to live, he knows what is best for us. It is for this reason that he has given us so many principles, guidelines and even prohibitions in his word. It is not to make our lives miserable or to limit our fun and fulfillment but because he knows what we need and what is best for us. Peter says that God has given us all we need for life and godliness. Paul writes that the word of God completely furnishes us unto every good work.

When we understand this we can live in the freedom of Jesus Christ and know that we have the best life possible. It may not be filled with the glamour of some around us or we may not have as much stuff as others but we can know that God is giving us and doing for us what is best.

God also knows what is best when it comes to our corporate worship. It is God who adds the saved to his church. The whole idea of the church is to have the body of Christ working together in harmony for the betterment of each individual part. When we cooperate with God on this and function actively as a part of this body, we will grow spiritually, grow in love for him and grow in our love for each other. When we fail to be active and faithful in our church lives, we not only hinder ourselves and our growth but we also do not lend the assistance to the other members of the body for their good and their growth. “How great are your works, O LORD, how profound your thoughts!”

O Lord, thank you for all you give me in your wisdom. I realize there are so many things and so much in my life that I am not even aware of and others I take for granted. Thank you for my physical health and the ability to function as I do. You have given me such a wonderful family and so many friends and I thank you and praise you for this. Especially do I thank you for my church family and the many things we share daily in Christ. Help me be more faithful to you and to them as we all grow closer to you each day. I pray in the name of Jesus.
