Daily Devotional: Psalms 31:6-10
Ps 31:6-10
I hate those who pay regard to worthless idols, but I trust in the Lord. I will rejoice and be glad in your steadfast love, because you have seen my affliction; you have known the distress of my soul, and you have not delivered me into the hand of the enemy; you have set my feet in a broad place. Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am in distress; my eye is wasted from grief; my soul and my body also. For my life is spent with sorrow, and my years with sighing; my strength fails because of my iniquity, and my bones waste away.
2 Cor 2:14-16a
But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere. For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing, to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life.
In Jesus we are more than conquerors! In him we can live a life of joy and peace as we feel his assurance. Whatever we face in life, we can depend on Jesus to be by our side, to hold our hand, and to let us rest on his bosom. As we fight to overcome our trials, his Spirit will give us strength. Jesus is our Rock!
When we serve the Lord, we avoid so many of the problems and pitfalls that others face on a daily basis. Every sin that so easily takes over even a small part of our lives brings with it problems and additional trials. When we are faithful to our spouse, we avoid a world of problems. When we are honest in all of our dealings, we don’t have to worry about getting trapped in our words. When we love instead of being hateful, we are treated so much better by others. Jesus is Lord!
Everyone wants to have that special friend. You know, the one who makes you feel good when you are down but will put you down when you think too much of yourself. That is the person who will listen to all you say and never repeat it to anyone or judge you for feeling that way. While we long for a friend like this that we can see and touch, we can find real joy and peace knowing that Jesus is walking beside us, listening, comforting, and chastising us. Jesus is our friend!
Our Father in heaven, holy and reverend is your name in all the earth! You alone are God, creator, and giver of life. You are the source of all good things. I thank you for all of the blessings you shower on me, thank you for keeping me from harm, and thank you for giving me peace. I praise you for your majesty, your great power, your infinite wisdom, and your marvelous grace given in Jesus, your Son. I need your wisdom, your strength, and your ability to show compassion, to extend mercy and forgiveness. I pray in the name of Jesus, my Savior.
