Daily Devotional: Psalms 57:6-11

Ps 57:6-11

They spread a net for my feet--I was bowed down in distress. They dug a pit in my path--but they have fallen into it themselves. Selah My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and make music. Awake, my soul! Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn. I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth.

2 Tim 2:11-13

Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us; if we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself.

We have all had times in our lives when we felt that someone has let us down. We have also had times when we felt bad because we let someone else down. We want to be known as being faithful to others and we certainly want others to be faithful to us. We put our trust in that person and we depended on them.

Judas was not faithful to Jesus when he betrayed him. Peter was unfaithful when he denied the Lord. Paul felt that John Mark was not being faithful when he left the group on their first preaching trip and later Paul said that Demas had forsaken him. The Bible is full of people who were unfaithful to others and to God.

None of this applies to God or to Jesus. Jesus was faithful to the Father in all his house, and we are that house of God. Paul said that no matter how unfaithful we may be, God is faithful because he cannot disown his nature. When he speaks, it is always true. His love is faithful and never changes. His mercy is faithful and it never wanes. His desire for us to live with him never ends until we are in heaven.

So, as Peter says, we should rejoice when we face all kinds of trials. God is faithful and will not allow us to be tempted beyond what we are able to bear. When we are weak in ourselves but we put our trust in God, we will be made strong. No matter what happens in our lives, he will use it for our good. In all the suffering of Job, God was faithful and he was protecting him by putting limits on Satan.

O Lord God, I know that I am too often unfaithful to you and I do not live up to your glory. But I see your faithfulness to me every day and I thank you and I praise you for being faithful to me. Help me be more faithful and accomplish what you want me to do and be what you want me to become. I know that others have people they love that are sick and I pray your blessings on them. I ask you to be with my wife as she goes through her treatments and I pray that you will give her renewed strength each day. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
