Daily Devotional: Psalms 2:1-6

Ps 2:1-6

Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the LORD and against his Anointed one. "Let us break their chains," they say, "and throw off their fetters." The one enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them. Then he rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying, "I have installed my King on Zion, my holy hill."

Rom 13:1-2

Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.

While in New York City, we asked our cab driver where he was from, and he said he was from the oldest nation on earth. He was from Egypt. While I am not sure if it is the oldest, I know it has been there since before the days of Abraham. This made me wonder why God has allowed them to exist this long, since they have not historically served him or even recognized him as God. I have no answer.

What I do know is that God put one wicked Pharaoh in power so that he could show his Supreme power to the whole world. It was by the plagues that God brought Egypt to its knees and almost wiped them out of existence. Not only did the Egyptians know that he is God, but over 400 years later, the Philistine lords still talked about how God showed his power in delivering Israel from Egypt.

It is sad that the very people who rule the nations, too often deny the existence of God, or just ignore him and his word. Our nation was founded on principles from his word, and his laws were the pattern used to establish our own laws. Yet, in our ignorance and pride, most public mention of God or of Jesus Christ in our country, is deemed as inappropriate. His morals are ignored or are ridiculed. But that does not change the fact that he is in control and when his time is right, we will fall along with the hundreds of other nations that have come and gone.

O Lord, my God, and my Father, I am thankful for your love, for your concern for me and my life. I need you every hour of every day to help me do what you want me to do, and to become all you want me to become. Use me to serve others and to honor your holy name. I do ask you to awaken the leaders of our country so they will recognize you as God and will honor you in their decisions by following your wisdom instead of their own. I pray that we can live in peace. Be with and bless those who are sick and struggling. I pray in the name of Jesus.
