Daily Devotional: Psalms 118:1-9

Ps 118:1-9

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. Let Israel say: "His love endures forever." Let the house of Aaron say: "His love endures forever." Let those who fear the LORD say: "His love endures forever." In my anguish I cried to the LORD, and he answered by setting me free. The LORD is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? The LORD is with me; he is my helper. I will look in triumph on my enemies. It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man. It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in princes.

Eph 2:2-5

All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions-it is by grace you have been saved.

If you are a Christian, you are right with God and counted as one who has not sinned. This is not because of your own goodness or any great deeds you have accomplished in your life. You are right with God because of his great love and because of his grace. The wonderful thing about this is that his love endures forever and there is nothing in all creation that can separate you from his love.

He loves us even when we are his enemies. He loves us when we are rebellious to him and when we fail to acknowledge him as God. He even loves those who put the nails in the hands and feet of his Son. This is because God is love, so his love endures forever. Because of his great love, he continues to show patience to those who are not serving him and those who blaspheme his holy name.

But when we turn to God in Jesus Christ, we find forgiveness of our sins and he gives his Holy Spirit to live in us, which then gives us inner joy and peace that is beyond comprehension. So as his love endures forever, we give thanks always and in all things. We can now focus on things that are positive and wholesome, instead of all the negative, wicked, and ungodly things around us. Praise the Lord!

O Lord God, my heavenly Father, I am so thankful for your love. In your grace you have given me more than I deserve in every spiritual blessing. You have blessed me beyond measure physically. You have filled my heart with joy and you give me peace that transcends the troubles and pain in this life. I get depressed, but you lift me up. I get distressed, but you take me through the storms of life. Give me wisdom and strength to use every opportunity you put in my life to do good and to help others. Help me speak words of kindness today. I pray in Jesus name.
