Daily Devotional: Psalms 66:1-7

Ps 66:1-7

1 Shout with joy to God, all the earth! 2 Sing the glory of his name; make his praise glorious! 3 Say to God, "How awesome are your deeds! So great is your power that your enemies cringe before you. 4 All the earth bows down to you; they sing praise to you, they sing praise to your name." Selah 5 Come and see what God has done, how awesome his works in man's behalf! 6 He turned the sea into dry land, they passed through the waters on foot--come, let us rejoice in him. 7 He rules forever by his power, his eyes watch the nations--let not the rebellious rise up against him. Selah

Rev 5:12-14

12 In a loud voice they sang: "Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!" 13 Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing: "To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!" 14 The four living creatures said, "Amen," and the elders fell down and worshiped.

Some days are really good and some days it seems that everything that can go wrong, does go wrong. We have times in our lives that we are showered with windfalls of blessings while other times it seems that we have more taken away than we are given. Part of that is our perception and part of it (sometimes) is that we do face some really bad times. But all of this is common to all mankind.

What sets the child of God apart from the rest of the world is that we put our trust in him and we know that he will see us through whatever we face. He may not stop our storms but he will provide us shelter. Our boat may be torn apart and it may sink but he will provide an island for us to land on. God is so good!

I would like to offer a challenge today. Focus on the good things God has given to us and done for us. Even if this is one of your bad days, focus on the good that God has done. In doing this, make a new commitment to be positive about life and sing praises to God all day long. After all, Paul did say we are to worry about nothing and pray about everything, with thanksgiving. Rejoice in the Lord always!

Lord God, when I count my blessing and measure them against all the bad things that happen to me, your blessings and your goodness far outweigh my trials. Help me use everything that happens to me to draw me closer to you and to make my faith stronger, as I depend on you. Thank you for my family, both my physical family and your spiritual family. Thank you for the many spiritual blessings I have in Jesus Christ as my Lord and thank you for the material things you have given to me as well. Use me to help others trust you. I pray in Jesus name.
