Daily Devotional: Psalms 59:1-8

Ps 59:1-8

1 Deliver me from my enemies, O God; protect me from those who rise up against me. 2 Deliver me from evildoers and save me from bloodthirsty men. 3 See how they lie in wait for me! Fierce men conspire against me for no offense or sin of mine, O LORD. 4 I have done no wrong, yet they are ready to attack me. Arise to help me; look on my plight! 5 O LORD God Almighty, the God of Israel, rouse yourself to punish all the nations; show no mercy to wicked traitors. Selah 6 They return at evening, snarling like dogs, and prowl about the city. 7 See what they spew from their mouths--they spew out swords from their lips, and they say, "Who can hear us?" 8 But you, O LORD, laugh at them; you scoff at all those nations.

Heb 12:27-29

27 The words "once more" indicate the removing of what can be shaken-that is, created things-so that what cannot be shaken may remain. 28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, 29 for our "God is a consuming fire."

We serve an awesome God! He has destroyed some of the greatest armies that have ever been with all kinds of disasters and even by trickery. He has used his angels to destroy thousands, even in one day or one night. There is none so great on earth that they can stand before our God in defiance and win. He puts rulers in power and he removes them. He makes nations rise and he brings them down.

But while we get so distraught about what is going on in this world, we forget that as his children we are not a part of this world. We belong to an eternal kingdom and or King is Jesus Christ. There have been many governments, many rulers and many social groups that have tried to destroy him and his kingdom but all of them have failed. His nation knows no boundaries and is not concerned with ethnic or social backgrounds or standings. It is a nation built on love and not physical might or power. It is a nation that strives to bring peace within each citizen but knows there will not be world peace as long as any reject Jesus as their King.

Heavenly Father I am so thankful to be a part of your kingdom and to know that no matter what happens around me, you are with me and you will protect me from all evil. Give me faith to die for you if necessary but even more than this, give me faith to live for your every day. Forgive me when I fail to be all you want me to become. Help me always remember that I am just a lump of clay in your hands and you are the potter, molding me into your image. Be with your people, especially in the nations controlled by Islamic rulers. In Jesus name.
