Daily Devotional: Psalms 52:1-9

Ps 52:1-9

1 Why do you boast of evil, you mighty man? Why do you boast all day long, you who are a disgrace in the eyes of God? 2 Your tongue plots destruction; it is like a sharpened razor, you who practice deceit. 3 You love evil rather than good, falsehood rather than speaking the truth. Selah 4 You love every harmful word, O you deceitful tongue! 5 Surely God will bring you down to everlasting ruin: He will snatch you up and tear you from your tent; he will uproot you from the land of the living. Selah 6 The righteous will see and fear; they will laugh at him, saying, 7 "Here now is the man who did not make God his stronghold but trusted in his great wealth and grew strong by destroying others!" 8 But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God's unfailing love for ever and ever. 9 I will praise you forever for what you have done; in your name I will hope, for your name is good. I will praise you in the presence of your saints.

Luke 16:14-15

14 The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all this and were sneering at Jesus. 15 He said to them, "You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of men, but God knows your hearts. What is highly valued among men is detestable in God's sight.

At times the wicked prosper and it seems that evil is ruling the world. As we seek to live for God, we have to wonder why he allows ungodly rulers in the world and how can sinners have so much control. This is because Satan is the prince of this world and he is the ruler of darkness. But his time is coming along with those who follow him and do his bidding. God will hold everyone accountable in the end.

Meanwhile, my task is to know the will of God and follow him. This means that I must put my trust in him. Not just mouth some words about believing in God or in Jesus Christ but actually putting my life in his hands with the assurance that in his time and his way, he will lead me in his paths and he will protect me from all evil.

To do the will of God means that we know how to love. We love those who love us but we also love our enemies. We show kindness to those with whom we do not agree or those we do not like to be around. We forgive others, even before they admit they need forgiveness. We show compassion instead of judging.

Heavenly Father fill me with your Spirit so I will show your love to those around me in every way. There is so much sickness, so much heartache, so much evil and so much hatred in this world so I ask you to help me put my trust in you. As I do so, use me to help others see you and trust you as well. Thank you for those who have been a help to me when I was down and needed help. Be with all of your people so we can show your love to others. I pray in the name of Jesus.
