Daily Devotional: Psalms 36:7-12

Ps 36:7-12

7 How priceless is your unfailing love! Both high and low among men find refuge in the shadow of your wings. 8 They feast on the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights. 9 For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light. 10 Continue your love to those who know you, your righteousness to the upright in heart. 11 May the foot of the proud not come against me, nor the hand of the wicked drive me away. 12 See how the evildoers lie fallen--thrown down, not able to rise!

John 4:13-14

13 Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."

Jesus offers eternal life to all who will come to him. If we had been looking for what we call a good prospect for converting to Christ, we would have probably not “wasted” our time on this woman. She was a Samaritan who had been married five times but was divorced again and living with another man. To any Godfearing Jew in her day, she would have been considered a social outcast and a religious heathen. But Jesus offered her eternal life in him.

The wonderful thing about following Jesus is that the life he offers is not only eternal but it is the abundant life even now. When we follow him, we avoid many of the pitfalls and heartaches that most of the world deals with every day. When we live in his love, we defuse many of the conflicts and the strife that is such a part of the lives of many. By putting our trust in him, we rid ourselves of all of the worry and anxieties that destroy the peace of those around us.

In Jesus we can rise above the world and all of the sorrow, conflict, hatred and the stress that destroys the lives and hearts of so many. We still have these around us and we still must deal with the realities of the world but with Jesus we know that we have the victory and that he will take care of all these things for us. We can rejoice in the midst of trials and tragedies. We find calm in the worst storms of life. We replace depression and despair with hope and peace. Praise the Lord!

O Lord, my Lord, God and Father who lives in heaven, I come to you today with joy in my heart and with thanksgiving on my lips. Because of your great love and your tender mercies and your abundant grace, I can look forward to today and every day that comes after this one. Guide me and use me in your will. Give me wisdom and strength to accomplish what you want me to do in my life. Fill me with your love and compassion so that it overflows to all those around me. Be with the leaders of our nation and give them your wisdom. In Jesus name.
