Daily Devotional: Psalms 33:12-22

Ps 33:12-22

12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance. 13 From heaven the LORD looks down and sees all mankind; 14 from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth--15 he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do. 16 No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength. 17 A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save. 18 But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, 19 to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine. 20 We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. 21 In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. 22 May your unfailing love rest upon us, O LORD, even as we put our hope in you.

Matt 28:18-20

18 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

The nation that becomes a world power has, and will, become such by the power of God and not by their own strength, power or might. The nation that honors God as God and respects his word will prosper and live with his blessings but the nation that rejects him and his will for mankind will be destroyed. But God does use wicked people, world leaders and nations to carry out his plan for mankind, so they may flourish for a while but their end will come soon.

But the real nation of God’s people is not physical Israel or the United States of
America nor is it any other geographical nation, country or people. The true nation of God’s people is made up of those who submit to Jesus Christ and are known by his name, the name Christian. Our battle is not against flesh and blood but is against the world forces of evil and Satan their leader. The good news is that we have already won the victory in Jesus Christ our Lord and our King.

Heavenly Father I am so glad that you love me and you have allowed me to know you in Jesus Christ. Help me be a true disciple, a learner and follower of Jesus so my life will conform to your likeness. Increase my faith and give me wisdom in my battle against evil and give me strength to overcome. Give me greater self-control so my thoughts are always pure and my actions are right. Help me have a servant mentality so I can be used by you and can reach others with the saving gospel. Be with those who are sick and hurting. I pray in the name of Jesus my King.
