Daily Devotional: Psalms 14:1-7

Ps 14:1-7

1 The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good. 2 The LORD looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. 3 All have turned aside, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one. 4 Will evildoers never learn--those who devour my people as men eat bread and who do not call on the LORD? 5 There they are, overwhelmed with dread, for God is present in the company of the righteous. 6 You evildoers frustrate the plans of the poor, but the LORD is their refuge. 7 Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When the LORD restores the fortunes of his people, let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!

2 Peter 3:3-5

3 First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. 4 They will say, "Where is this 'coming' he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation." 5 But they deliberately forget that long ago by God's word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water.

Why do so many, even among the educational elite, deny the existence of God and disregard his word? The problem does not lie in the evidence, nor does it lie in the ability to understand that proof. The problem lies in the recognition that if God is real and the Bible is his word, we are accountable to him and will be judged according to his revelation. The secondary problem is the result of the ego of all of mankind and our desire to be in control of our own lives and destiny.

But Paul says that even though they profess to be wise, they become fools by not recognizing all of the evidence God has given to us. Mankind is without excuse because God has, by his creation, made it abundantly clear that all things have been designed by an intelligence far beyond that of all mankind combined. To deny God denies every rule of logic by which science exists.

In his wisdom, God has revealed himself to us in creation, explained it in his word and makes himself known through his Son. In him, and in him alone, we can find the one thing that all have longed for through the ages; to live forever.

O Lord, I ask you to open the eyes of the educators in our land and convict their hearts so they will recognize you and your sovereign word. Give them wisdom to accept Jesus as their only Savior and to know him as their Lord. Turn their foolish hearts from self to see the evidence seen in your creation. Keep me from ever doubting your word and the many promises you have made to me. Use me in your service, in your way and in your time. I humbly pray in Jesus name.
