Daily Devotional: Psalms 135:1-7

Ps 135:1-7

1 Praise the LORD. Praise the name of the LORD; praise him, you servants of the LORD, 2 you who minister in the house of the LORD, in the courts of the house of our God. 3 Praise the LORD, for the LORD is good; sing praise to his name, for that is pleasant. 4 For the LORD has chosen Jacob to be his own, Israel to be his treasured possession. 5 I know that the LORD is great, that our Lord is greater than all gods. 6 The LORD does whatever pleases him, in the heavens and on the earth, in the seas and all their depths. 7 He makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth; he sends lightning with the rain and brings out the wind from his storehouses.

Acts 14:16-17

16 In the past, he let all nations go their own way. 17 Yet he has not left himself without testimony: He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons; he provides you with plenty of food and fills your hearts with joy."

There are some issues that get into the political realm that are actually moral or religious issues. These must be decided on the basis of what God has said and not on the political agenda of some of our leaders. Even when it is claimed to be on the basis of science, it does not make it right or amoral. Remember, it was the most modern science of the day that said the world was flat and not round.

One such issue is that of global warming or climate change. We are to be good stewards of all that God has given us, and that includes the earth. But for us to think that mankind can change the climate is about as brazen and absurd as when the people began to build the tower of Babal to reach into heaven.

To believe such is a lack of trust in the God who made it all and who controls it, even today. He set the seasons and he maintains his creation in his Son. It is also an insult to the wisdom of God who created the systems of our world. There are and there have been changes and cycles in the climate and environment but these are natural phenomenon and not caused by humans. When God is ready for the world to come to an end, it will happen but not a moment before.

Heavenly Father I am thankful for the infinite wisdom shown in your creation. You alone are God and your majesty is supreme. I know that you do whatever pleases you and it is not my place to question your wisdom. Thank you for the seasons, the storms and even the ocean waves that remind me of your power. Thank you for the beauty of flowers in the spring but also for the reminder in winter that all things (even me) need an occasional rest. Guard my innermost thoughts that I will never doubt but always honor you with praise. I pray in Jesus name.
