Daily Devotional: Psalms 132:1-10

Ps 132:1-10

1 O LORD, remember David and all the hardships he endured. 2 He swore an oath to the LORD and made a vow to the Mighty one of Jacob: 3 "I will not enter my house or go to my bed--4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids, 5 till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty one of Jacob." 6 We heard it in Ephrathah, we came upon it in the fields of Jaar: 7 "Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool--8 arise, O LORD, and come to your resting place, you and the ark of your might. 9 May your priests be clothed with righteousness; may your saints sing for joy." 10 For the sake of David your servant, do not reject your anointed one.

1 Cor 3:16-17

16 Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you? 17 If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him; for God's temple is sacred, and you are that temple.

Humans could never build a temple that was grand enough or large enough to hold the God of heaven and earth, who created all things. While he has allowed his presence to be known in certain places, it does not contain our God. His majesty surpasses anything that the human mind can discern.

Yet, God dwells in his people. He says that our body is his temple so we are to live holy lives. His church (his people) is his temple so we are to follow his will and be at peace with one another. The mystery of the ages that has been revealed is that all who are in Christ are one and we are all equal before God. We are to make every effort to maintain this unity in him, in the bond of peace.

There is nothing that will destroy the church quicker than human pride. When one does not get his or her way and then causes a problem over it, this is pride. When we think our ideas are better than those of others, this is pride. When we are honest and we really trace it back, most church problems can be traced back to pride. It may be in the form of hurt feelings or it may be a deflation of ego or a rejection of an idea or program but it boils down to human pride. We are to imitate the humility of Jesus and become servants. “Submit to one another.”

Heavenly Father it is not easy to give up my pride or to allow my ego to be deflated. Help me always remember that my journey on this earth is about me serving you and therefore serving others. It is about getting me ready to live with you in eternity. It is about me showing your love and the love of Jesus in the way I talk and act toward all around me. My journey is to be guided by what will bring you glory and will honor your name. Thank you for loving me. Give your healing to those who are sick and those who are hurting. I pray in the name of Jesus.
