Daily Devotional: Psalms 119:97-104

Ps 119:97-104         Mem

97 Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long. 98 Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, for they are ever with me. 99 I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes. 100 I have more understanding than the elders, for I obey your precepts. 101 I have kept my feet from every evil path so that I might obey your word. 102 I have not departed from your laws, for you yourself have taught me. 103 How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! 104 I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path.

James 1:21-22

21 Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. 22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

The wisest of all men said the whole purpose of living is to do the will of God and respect him as God. His father taught him in his youth the importance of obeying the commands of God. When David was old and about to die, he instructed his son, Solomon to keep the law of God and he would be blessed. From his youth until the day he died, obeying the Lord was his first and highest priority.

The best course in life for us is to obey the word of God. When we really believe this, we will find ways to make it work in our lives instead of finding excuses for doing things our own way. God made us and he knows best. The things of this world are all in his hand and under his control so it only makes sense that we follow his will. This means we must trust him as God, as Lord over all.

God has given all authority to the Son. This is because he has proven his own obedience when he came to earth and lived as one of us. Not only did he live as mankind in every way, but he also accepted the guilt of our sin upon himself and took it to the cross in death. Jesus died for our sin but God raised him from the grave so that we might be resurrected and live forever also. This forever life is the greatest benefit of serving God and surpasses any and all problems we may face in this life. We live in daily anticipation of being with the Lord forever!

Lord God, giver of life and creator of all things, it is with joy that I seek to know your will and strive to live in obedience to it. Thank you for showing me your love and your forgiveness, even when I do not deserve anything good from you. Thank you for teaching me to love and to forgive others when they do not deserve it either. I ask you to please stop and take away the COVID-19 virus that has done so much to disrupt our lives. Increase my faith so I will be free from anxiety, worry and fear but have a heart filled with joy and peace. I pray in Jesus name.
