Daily Devotional: Psalms 149:1-4

Ps 149:1-4

1 Praise the LORD! Sing to the LORD a new song, And His praise in the congregation of the godly ones. 2 Let Israel be glad in his Maker; Let the sons of Zion rejoice in their King. 3 Let them praise His name with dancing; Let them sing praises to Him with timbrel and lyre. 4 For the LORD takes pleasure in His people; He will beautify the afflicted ones with salvation.

Col 3:14-17

15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.

When we love the Lord and we are filled with joy because we are his, we greatly extol his virtues and will sing praises to his name. Singing praises to God comes as natural to a Christian as breathing air to all of us. Our singing is an overflow of our hearts as we give thanks to the God who made us and who provides all things for us. Jesus is our Lord, our loving Master and glorious King. Praise his name!

When we consider what God has given for us so that we can live with him in eternal bliss, we are overwhelmed with wonder and awe. He loves us enough that he gave his Son to come to earth and to die for our sin. How can an all-powerful God, who has all things at his command, love you and me this much? Our sin took us from his fellowship but his grace restores it again. Praise his holy name!

Jesus is the Son of God. He is the exact representation of the Father. He told his disciples that if they had seen him and knew him, they had seen the Father and knew him. He is attributed with being the creator and sustainer of all things. He lives forever with God and as God in all his glory and majesty. Yet, he humbled himself and freely gave up all the glories of heaven to come and live as one of us here on earth. He lived without sin and then humbled himself even more to face death on a cross so we can live forever with him. Praise the name of Jesus!

Heavenly Father I am so thankful for your love. I stand in awe when I consider your greatness, your majesty and try to imagine your glory. My heart overflows with songs of praise as I think of your great love, your tender mercy and your unspeakable grace. Thank you for taking away all of my sin and allowing me to be your child. Help me keep my eyes focused on you and to always keep heaven as my eternal goal. Give your peace to those who have lost ones they love from this life. Use me in your wisdom to serve others. I pray in the name of Jesus.
