Daily Devotional: Psalms 148:1-6

Ps 148:1-6

1 Praise the LORD. Praise the LORD from the heavens, praise him in the heights above. 2 Praise him, all his angels, praise him, all his heavenly hosts. 3 Praise him, sun and moon, praise him, all you shining stars. 4 Praise him, you highest heavens and you waters above the skies. 5 Let them praise the name of the LORD, for he commanded and they were created. 6 He set them in place for ever and ever; he gave a decree that will never pass away.

Col 1:13-17

13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. 15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

When we do something and do it well, it praises us. Whether it is cooking a great meal, cleaning a house, running a business, mowing a yard or preaching a sermon, if the job is well done, it brings praise and honor to the one doing it. We may not do things for the praise (and often we don’t) but it does praise us when it is done. As a child I had a lady tell me the greatest compliment she could have was for me to ask for second helpings of her cooking. Praise is thanksgiving.

God created everything, including all of mankind. He gave us the ability to rule over things and to live the lives we enjoy. Think of the many animals that are larger and stronger than any human but we still control them. Using wisdom from God, we have been able to send a person to the moon – and to come back alive! Think of all the medical technology and procedures that saves lives today.

We look at these things and think we are really smart but God just spoke and the moon came into existence. He designed every detailed part of the human body in his mind, formed it from clay and breathed life into it. Then he gave his Son to die for us so we can live with him eternally! All things praise him who made us!

Heavenly Father, creator of all things, thank you for giving me life and for giving me your plan to live. As I behold the beautiful sunrise and sunset I stand in awe of your great power. The singing birds and beautiful flowers remind me of your love and your beauty. The ocean waves show your power but restraint in using it. The vast skies and the heavenly bodies beyond our ability to see remind me of your infinity in power, knowledge, wisdom and presence. Thank you for loving me and giving a way of being with you in person, in eternity. I pray in Jesus name.
