Daily Devotional: Psalms 119:129-136

Ps 119:129-136                  Pe

129 Your statutes are wonderful; therefore I obey them. 130 The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. 131 I open my mouth and pant, longing for your commands. 132 Turn to me and have mercy on me, as you always do to those who love your name. 133 Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me. 134 Redeem me from the oppression of men, that I may obey your precepts. 135 Make your face shine upon your servant and teach me your decrees. 136 Streams of tears flow from my eyes, for your law is not obeyed.

Rom 8:5-8

5 Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. 6 The mind of the flesh is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; 7 the fleshly mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so. 8 Those controlled by the flesh cannot please God.

Living for God is a daily challenge. The world, the flesh and its desires and all the things of this world try to lure us away from God. In the weakness of the flesh we find ourselves thinking and doing things that should not be a part of our lives. But it is our constant desire and devotion to serve the Lord. In our quest for godliness we stumble and sin at times but as soon as it is recognized we turn from it, asking God to continue to forgive us. Thanks be to God! We are freed from sin and there is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus our Lord.

A genuine mindset toward God and a focus on things above will cause us to freely admit when we have done wrong and keep us from making excuses. Our goal is to always (every moment 24/7) to show forth the glory of God as we radiate the light of Jesus in our lives. Our quest is to imitate the mind and life of Jesus as we seek to do the will of God in all things. This is a life of love for righteousness. It is a path of peace toward others fueled by our compassion and willingness to forgive, even those who don’t deserve it. But never a compromise of truth from God.

O Lord God, giver of life and originator of love, joy and peace, I am so thankful to be in Jesus Christ and to be your child. Fill me with your Spirit so I will be more like you every day. Help me keep my heart focused on you and on the things above so I will show your glory, your goodness and your love to all those around me. Help me live in such a way that others will be drawn to the saving gospel of Jesus. Use me and all you have given me to honor you in what I say and do. Give me wisdom to live and to teach your will. I pray in the name of Jesus my Savior.
