Daily Devotional: Psalms 119:105-112

Ps 119:105-112                  Nun

105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. 106 I have taken an oath and confirmed it, that I will follow your righteous laws. 107 I have suffered much; preserve my life, O LORD, according to your word. 108 Accept, O LORD, the willing praise of my mouth, and teach me your laws. 109 Though I constantly take my life in my hands, I will not forget your law. 110 The wicked have set a snare for me, but I have not strayed from your precepts. 111 Your statutes are my heritage forever; they are the joy of my heart. 112 My heart is set on keeping your decrees to the very end.

John 3:19-21

19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."

Jesus is the word of life and he is the light of the world. He is the representation of the Father, revealing him to the world. On one occasion, he told his disciples that if they had seen him, they had seen the Father but if they did not know him, they could not know his father. The Word of God is the revelation of the truth from God. Jesus is truth personified, God in the flesh for us.

We can not be truly dedicated to God or be in Jesus Christ when we ignore his word and refuse to follow his teaching. We all understand that we are saved by God’s grace and are made righteous by the sacrificial blood of Jesus on the cross but that doesn’t take away our responsibility to live for him.

Paul said we are created in Christ Jesus in order to do good works which God prepared before hand for us to do. He told Timothy that scripture is God breathed and provides us unto all good works. Just because we call it a good work does not mean it fits God’s plan for us. We must study his word and know what he calls good and what he considers as useless or even false deeds. We must be fully committed to the word and the will of God in our lives – not our own.

Heavenly Father I am thankful for your love for me. Thank you for revealing your word to us both in human flesh and then in written form. Thank you for the joy of living for you and being in the body of Christ. Help me praise your holy name in all I do and in every part of my life. Forgive me when I fail to live up to your glory and allow sin to invade my heart and my life. Give me a pure heart to be willing to admit when I am wrong and to quickly turn from it when I see it. Be with those who are sick and those taking treatments. I pray in the name of Jesus.
