Daily Devotional: Psalms 119:97-104

Ps 119:97-104                     Mem

97 Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long. 98 Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, for they are ever with me. 99 I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes. 100 I have more understanding than the elders, for I obey your precepts. 101 I have kept my feet from every evil path so that I might obey your word. 102 I have not departed from your laws, for you yourself have taught me. 103 How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! 104 I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path.

Eph 5:15-18

15 Be very careful, then, how you live-not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish but understand what the Lord's will is. 18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.

Ask yourself, “Do I get excited about serving God?” Do we look forward with anticipation to spending time in the word of God? Do we think to ourselves that we “have to” go to church or do we think that we “get to” go? Is our time with the Lord a cherished time of our day or do we even make time in our busy schedules to talk with him and meditate on his word? Do we count it a joy to be able to obey his precepts? It is from him that we get wisdom to live each day.

Doing right brings joy. It does not leave us filled with regrets nor does it make us want to hide our behavior. When we are serving God, we are letting our lights shine and bringing glory to our Father God. Living for him shows those around us our faith and it shows them a glimpse of Jesus our Lord.

As we are filled with the Spirit, his fruit will flourish and will be evident to all. As he lives in us, the love of God will overflow in our hearts as we put away every form of hatred, all bitterness, envy and gossip. We will show compassion, mercy and the grace of God as we speak kind words and say those things that are useful for building others up in their faith. We can do all things in Jesus Christ.

Heavenly Father it is such a joy to be your child and to know Jesus as my brother but also as my Lord and my King because he is my Savior. Increase my faith so I will make my body a fit dwelling for you as your Spirit lives in me. Give me your wisdom to know your will and how to live it. Give me your strength to be all you want me to become. But help me always remember that I am what I am because of your grace and not because of my own doing, wisdom or power. Thank you for loving me so much. Give your strength to those who are serving you in spite of being persecuted and maligned for doing so. I pray in the name of Jesus.
