Daily Devotional: Psalms 113:1-9

Ps 113:1-9

1 Praise the LORD. Praise, O servants of the LORD, praise the name of the LORD. 2 Let the name of the LORD be praised, both now and forevermore. 3 From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the LORD is to be praised. 4 The LORD is exalted over all the nations, his glory above the heavens. 5 Who is like the LORD our God, the one who sits enthroned on high, 6 who stoops down to look on the heavens and the earth? 7 He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; 8 he seats them with princes, with the princes of their people. 9 He settles the barren woman in her home as a happy mother of children. Praise the LORD.

1 Peter 1:3-5

3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade-kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

When we consider all that God has done for us, how can we do anything but want to praise him and his holy name? It is more than enough to consider the physical blessings that abound but when we think of the matchless grace that is given to us in Jesus Christ, our lips cannot be silent! We praise him for his marvelous love and we praise him because of his boundless wisdom. We offer our praise to the Supreme majesty of all things, both physical and spiritual.

Jesus has been crowned King of kings and Lord of lords and has been given all authority and power. He is our Savior from the bondage of sin by his sacrifice on the cross. He is our brother and our friend because he lived here on earth as one of us in every respect. He is our advocate with the Father because he faced every temptation that we face but did so without sin. We praise Jesus the Messiah!

The best praise we can offer to God is to be like him. The most heartfelt praise we offer to Jesus as our Lord is to follow his will. As we demonstrate the heart of God and serve others, we bring praise to him. Praise the Lord, He is exalted!

I praise your holy name as God of gods and as Lord of lords. I thank you and praise you for the opportunity to be your child and to be a joint heir with Jesus your Son. It is beyond my ability to comprehend how wonderful this really is because I can’t grasp eternity. As I ponder the word pictures you have given of heaven and of your glory, I stand in awe and realize just how small and insignificant I truly am and how far I am from being like you. Thank you for loving me enough to forgive me. Give me a forgiving heart toward others. I pray in the name of Jesus.
