Daily Devotional: Psalms 109:22-31

Ps 109:22-31

22 For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me. 23 I fade away like an evening shadow; I am shaken off like a locust. 24 My knees give way from fasting; my body is thin and gaunt. 25 I am an object of scorn to my accusers; when they see me, they shake their heads. 26 Help me, O LORD my God; save me in accordance with your love. 27 Let them know that it is your hand, that you, O LORD, have done it. 28 They may curse, but you will bless; when they attack they will be put to shame, but your servant will rejoice. 29 My accusers will be clothed with disgrace and wrapped in shame as in a cloak. 30 With my mouth I will greatly extol the LORD; in the great throng I will praise him. 31 For he stands at the right hand of the needy one, to save his life from those who condemn him.

2 Tim 2:11-13

11 Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; 12 if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us; 13 if we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself.

No matter what we face in life, God is with us and will never forsake us. Too often life is not easy and we wonder how we will make it through the day. The burdens we face are many and each of us has our own unique challenges. In these times when we our hearts are heavy and our way seems dark, we can pour out our hearts to Jesus and know that as our brother, he will hear us and will talk with the Father about our needs. Remember, he understands what we face and feel.

For many of us the day is bright, our way is pleasant and life is good. It is in these times we must not forget God and remember that he is the reason things are as good as they are at this point. While we may feel in control of everything, it can change in a moment and there is nothing we can do to prevent it. It is always by the grace of God that we have what we have and we are what we are.

Each of us should determine to use all God has given us today to help someone else who is struggling. Even in our trials we can focus on the needs of others and receive encouragement from them as we share God’s love with each other.

Father and God, I am thankful for your love, your compassion and your constant care for me. Help me focus on the many good things in my life and not allow the trials and burdens to get me down. I realize you know every care I face and just how heavy is every load I carry so help me leave them all with you and not worry about all that I cannot change or control. Give me wisdom to know what I can do and what to do about it. Give me strength to do what I need to do to serve you and to help others. I pray in the name of Jesus who died for me.
