Daily Devotional: Psalms 99:1-4

Ps. 99:1-4

1 The LORD reigns, let the nations tremble; he sits enthroned between the cherubim, let the earth shake. 2 Great is the LORD in Zion; he is exalted over all the nations. 3 Let them praise your great and awesome name--he is holy. 4 The King is mighty, he loves justice--you have established equity; in Jacob you have done what is just and right.

Rev. 5:11-14

11 Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. 12 In a loud voice they sang: "Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!" 13 Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing: "To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!" 14 The four living creatures said,  Amen," and the elders fell down and worshiped.

Did you ever notice that when we read about heaven, it is all about God. The focal point is not about people or angels (although they are mentioned) but about the glory of God, his splendor and his majesty. Of course the surroundings of God are beautiful beyond our ability to comprehend and because of his presence, there is nothing evil, sinful or any of the ills we face on earth because of sin.

There is no temple or sun to give light. God is the temple. Jesus is the light. These represent the glories of heaven and there is no place for them any longer. When we are before the throne of God, we will not need to pray because we are in the presence of God and can talk with him freely. Holding the hand of Jesus will be real and no longer by faith. Faith and hope will be gone and replaced by sight.

Our God is an awesome God! This is why we must never seek to make him like us but rather, we must allow him to remake us in his likeness. The more we are able to think, reason and act like Jesus, the more we will be ready to inherit that new heaven and new earth and sing praises to our Savior, our Lord and our King.

Father and God, you are awesome beyond my ability to grasp, your majesty is far beyond what any words can describe. Create in me a clean heart with a spirit that is willing to always submit to your will. With your power, give me the self-control to do what I know is right and to not do those things that I know are wrong. Give me wisdom to discern between them. Forgive me when I fail. Thank you for revealing the beauties of heaven in your word. Help me keep my eyes focused on Jesus. Use me in your service here on earth. I pray in the name of Jesus.
