Daily Devotional: Psalms 86:8-13

Ps. 86:8-13

8 Among the gods there is none like you, O Lord; no deeds can compare with yours. 9 All the nations you have made will come and worship before you, O Lord; they will bring glory to your name. 10 For you are great and do marvelous deeds; you alone are God. 11 Teach me your way, O LORD, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. 12 I will praise you, O Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever. 13 For great is your love toward me; you have delivered me from the depths of the grave.

Gal. 3:26-29

26 You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

When we give our heart and life to the Lord, we demonstrate it by being baptized into Jesus Christ. It is at that point that our sins are washed away and we put on Christ. In Acts 2 it tells us that this is when we are saved and the Lord adds the saved to his church. Peter says that it is not the washing of the water that saves us but it is the answer of a good conscience. Jesus commanded and we obey.

As a new person in Christ we are the child of God and we live a new life. We put off the old person of sin so that our goal is not to satisfy ourselves and our lusts but to do the will of God. We give up every form of dishonesty and be truthful and honest in all we do and say. We give up anything that leads to immorality, whether it be our friends, our style of dress or the habits we have developed. We love because God loves us and we forgive because he has forgiven us.

Our prayer becomes that of David, that the Lord will teach us his way so that we will walk in truth with an undivided heart. We do this with reverence for the Lord and his name. He is God and we are his, so we live for him in his way. He gives us his Holy Spirit to mold us into his image; to develop the fruit of the Spirit in our lives so that we become more like him every day.  Praise the name of the Lord!

Heavenly Father, I am so thankful for your love. Thank you for allowing me to be your child. This affords me a wonderful privilege of having so many in my spiritual family who encourage and support me in so many ways. I ask your blessings and special care on those who are serving you in spite of persecution and hardships. Give them your strength to be faithful and your peace in the midst of trials. Use me to help and encourage others in whatever way is possible. Give me wisdom to know what to say and when to be silent. I pray in the name of Jesus.
