Daily Devotional: Psalms 31:14-18

Ps 31:14-18

14 But I trust in you, O LORD; I say, "You are my God." 15 My times are in your hands; deliver me from my enemies and from those who pursue me. 16 Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love. 17 Let me not be put to shame, O LORD, for I have cried out to you; but let the wicked be put to shame and lie silent in the grave. 18 Let their lying lips be silenced, for with pride and contempt they speak arrogantly against the righteous.

Rom 15:30-33

30 I urge you, brothers, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to join me in my struggle by praying to God for me. 31 Pray that I may be rescued from the unbelievers in Judea and that my service in Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints there, 32 so that by God's will I may come to you with joy and together with you be refreshed. 33 The God of peace be with you all. Amen.

A very wise and savvy investor on Wall Street was asked what he believed was the greatest determining factor on stock prices. Much to the surprise of the person asking the question, he said the “weather”. We all know that the weather is the most important factor for construction workers and for farmers, but we probably never thought it was for those on Wall Street too. Boil that down and it tells us that God is in control of our economy because only he controls weather.

Many worry about the atomic bomb. The potential destruction and devastation that could be caused by an atomic attack is hard for us to even imagine. But the splitting and releasing the power in the atom it just a small part of what God put in place and has known about since the beginning of time.

There is something that is far more powerful than the atomic bomb. A power that we can all access is prayer. The wonderful thing about the power of prayer is that it is not for destruction but for our salvation. The power of prayer can deliver us from all kinds of trials, problems and diseases here on earth. At the will of God, it may not take these things away, but he always gives us the strength to endure and learn from them. Prayer always brings us closer to our Lord. As we talk with him daily, we find we are drawn nearer to him and he comes to live in us.

O Lord God, infinite, mighty and all wise, I come to you today with thankfulness in my heart for all you have done for me in my life. But not only what you have done for me but for so many others who have put their trust in you. I thank you for all you continue to do for me every day. Open my eyes to see the opportunities you give me to do good and help me use them to your glory. I pray for so many who are serving you and those who are preaching your word in places that life is not easy and are even persecuted for your sake. I pray in the name of Jesus.
