Daily Devotional: Psalms 24:7-10

Ps 24:7-10

7 Lift up your heads, O you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. 8 Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. 9 Lift up your heads, O you gates; lift them up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. 10 Who is he, this King of glory? The LORD Almighty--he is the King of glory.

1 Tim 6:11-16

11 But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.   12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 13 In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, I charge you 14 to keep this command without spot or blame until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 which God will bring about in his own time-God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, 16 who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen.

This King of glory is our mighty God, Lord of lords and King of kings. He is our protector today and he is our victor in every battle of life. When sorrows come, he is the great comforter. He gives us strength to battle and to overcome every temptation. He gives wisdom to deal with all the trials in life and to help us understand his will. There is none greater than our Lord, our King of glory.

As our Lord of lords, we are to submit to his will. This does not leave room for us to rationalize things to get our way. Our opinion does not count when it is counter with his word. The good thing about this is that we know he only wants what is best for us in every situation – so his way is always the best way.

Living a life of submission to his will brings us peace and joy that is beyond words to describe. Many of the troubles we face in life come from poor decisions on our part and following him helps us avoid these. When the unavoidable does come on us, we can turn to him for help, for strength, for wisdom and for victory.

O Mighty God, Lord of lords and King of kings, ruler of all the universe, I come to you in humility and with a heart of gratitude. Thank you for your love for me and for the help you give me every day to deal with the trials of life. I know you put earthly rulers and nations in place and I am thankful to live in a country that allows me such great freedoms. I ask your blessings on our rulers. Give them a heart to look to you for wisdom to make this nation all you want us to be. Use me in my circle to help others when possible. I pray in the name of Jesus.
