Daily Devotional: Psalms 59:12-17

Ps 59:12-17

For the sins of their mouths, for the words of their lips, let them be caught in their pride. For the curses and lies they utter, consume them in wrath, consume them till they are no more. Then it will be known to the ends of the earth that God rules over Jacob. Selah They return at evening, snarling like dogs, and prowl about the city. They wander about for food and howl if not satisfied. But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble. O my Strength, I sing praise to you; you, O God, are my fortress, my loving God.

Eph 6:13-15

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.

There may be more than one reason that new converts to Christ are referred to as being babies. We start out with the milk of the word. We are innocent as new babies in our thoughts and motives. But another thing is that, like a baby is totally dependent on its parents for care, we totally trust God in everything. While it is true that our faith must grow, from day one in Christ, we give him our life.

Trying to serve the Lord with a partial or reserved faith is like trying to swim in a pool with one foot on the land and one in the water. It will not work. This is why we are told to die to sin. We die to the world around us. We put off all of the old life, so we can put on the new. Saving faith that is acceptable means that we trust God without reservation and put our destiny in his hands with confidence.

This faith opens our hearts to his word, without argument. It is shown in absolute obedience. When we don’t understand why or how, we do it anyway because we trust Jesus. It is in this faith that we find strength to overcome whatever we face in life. There is no power that is greater than our God and he will win our battles for us, every time, without fail, when we put all of our trust in him. Praise God!

My heavenly Father, I am so glad that you have given me assurance that you will take care of me. I am thankful that this means you are with me all day, every day I know that we face the enemy every day, but I know that Jesus is alive and that he has already won the battle by his resurrection. Give strength and healing to my wife as she continues her radiation treatments. I ask you to be with others who are struggling and who face discouragement. Give them peace in their hearts and strength in their bodies. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
