Daily Devotional: Psalms 92:1-8

Ps 92:1-8

1 It is good to praise the LORD and make music to your name, O Most High, 2 to proclaim your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night, 3 to the music of the ten-stringed lyre and the melody of the harp. 4 For you make me glad by your deeds, O LORD; I sing for joy at the works of your hands. 5 How great are your works, O LORD, how profound your thoughts! 6 The senseless man does not know, fools do not understand, 7 that though the wicked spring up like grass and all evildoers flourish, they will be forever destroyed. 8 But you, O LORD, are exalted forever.

James 5:16-18

16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. 17 Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. 18 Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops.

My Jesus knows just what I need. There are times that I am on an emotional high because it seems everything is going great in my life. There are times when it just seems that the right thing to do is to sing praises to God. These are the days that my smile is so big it almost shines. But there are also days in my life when I do not want to get out of bed or when I wish everyone would leave me alone. My heart is heavy and I may not even know it or know why I am so down and out.

Elijah was a man like us. Imagine the emotional high which he had after he won the contest on Mount Carmel and had shown everyone that God is the only true God! He had proven that Baal was false and had killed his prophets. But when we fast forward just a few days and he is down and out and asking God to let him die because he is the only good person left in the whole world. He was depressed.

God sent his angel to help Elijah. God sends his angels to us today. It may not be a real angel but it is that friend we have not seen in years or it is some sweet lady that speaks words of encouragement. Countless times I have almost given up on doing these devotionals but someone tells me how much they mean to them and it keeps me going. God is good and it is good to trust him and to praise him.

O Lord, what a blessing to know that you love me and that you are always with me. You give me light on my darkest day and you show me your love when it seems that no one else cares. You have guided me in my life and you have shown me the way when I was so confused. You have given me hope when I have been down and out and overwhelmed by depression. You have given me a loving family and so many wonderful friends. Thank you, Lord, in Jesus name.
