Daily Devotional: Psalms 10:12-18

Ps 10:12-18

12 Arise, LORD! Lift up your hand, O God. Do not forget the helpless. 13 Why does the wicked man revile God? Why does he say to himself, "He won't call me to account"? 14 But you, O God, do see trouble and grief; you consider it to take it in hand. The victim commits himself to you; you are the helper of the fatherless. 15 Break the arm of the wicked and evil man; call him to account for his wickedness that would not be found out. 16 The LORD is King for ever and ever; the nations will perish from his land. 17 You hear, O LORD, the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry, 18 defending the fatherless and the oppressed, in order that man, who is of the earth, may terrify no more.

Gal 6:9-10

9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

In a church where I once preached, there was a lady who came on Sunday morning, most of the time. But she never came other services and she missed quite a bit for the one service. She was quiet and seemed like a nice lady.

At the same time, in my secular job, I came in contact with a man who was probably the most ungodly person I have ever known. He told me that the only god he served was green and in his wallet. He also told me that if it were up to him, he would line up all the preachers in the world and shoot them down.

I had to go with my boss to his house one day and the lady from church answered the door. This was her husband! What I later learned was that he did everything he could to discourage and to even make it impossible for her to ever go to church or to be around other Christians. She did her best to be faithful.

What I learned was we must be careful when we judge others. Only God knows what they are facing. For her to attend one time took more faith and strength than it did for me to attend every service. She did not need criticism from others for her seemingly lack of attendance. She needed encouragement to survive.

Heavenly Father help me do good to others when I have the opportunity. It may be financial or it may be emotional help that I can give. It may be encouragement to help someone survive in their quest to serve you. Keep me from being judgmental toward others but to encourage them. Lord, there are friends of mine who are sick and having tests and others who are taking treatments. I pray that you will be with them and give them healing where it is your will. Give them strength to endure and peace of mind as they trust you. I pray in the name of Jesus.
