Daily Devotional: Psalms 148:1-6

Ps 148:1-6

1 Praise the LORD. Praise the LORD from the heavens, praise him in the heights above. 2 Praise him, all his angels, praise him, all his heavenly hosts. 3 Praise him, sun and moon, praise him, all you shining stars. 4 Praise him, you highest heavens and you waters above the skies. 5 Let them praise the name of the LORD, for he commanded and they were created. 6 He set them in place for ever and ever; he gave a decree that will never pass away.

Rev 5:11-14

11 Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. 12 In a loud voice they sang: "Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!" 13 Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing: "To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!" 14 The four living creatures said, Amen," and the elders fell down and worshiped.

There have been times in my life that I had the opportunity to be in a crowd of over a thousand people singing praises to our God. It is hard to explain the thrill it gives our soul to lift up praises in such a situation as this. All in one accord, singing praise to the name of our God and to his Son. He is worthy of praise!

But transport yourself in your mind to the crowd of people and angels whose number is so great that it is described as thousands upon thousands and ten thousand times ten thousand and feel the chills that run down your spine. Not to see our Lord by faith but to be in his presence and to surround his great throne as we sing these praises to him. He is God and he alone deserves this praise.

But now, back to earth and our existence here, we can praise him and give him honor as we live for him in our homes or at work or as a good neighbor. When we show his love or we help one in need we honor him. When we react in kindness instead of retaliation, we show forth the Son living in us. Praise the Lord!

Heavenly Father it is such a privilege to be able to know you and to know Jesus, your Son and my Savior. I know that I fail to always honor you in the things I do or say but, in my heart, I want to do that. Forgive me when I fail. As I grow closer to you and as I see you more clearly each day, help me show your love to others and to honor you in so doing. Lord, I pray for our nation and our leaders. Even more, I pray for your church and all those who are seeking to serve you, wherever they are in this world. Protect and strengthen your people. I pray in Jesus name.
