Daily Devotional: Psalms 115:9-13

Ps 115:9-13

9 O house of Israel, trust in the LORD--he is their help and shield. 10 O house of Aaron, trust in the LORD--he is their help and shield. 11 You who fear him, trust in the LORD--he is their help and shield. 12 The LORD remembers us and will bless us: He will bless the house of Israel, he will bless the house of Aaron, 13 he will bless those who fear the LORD--small and great alike.

Heb 12:22-24

22 But you have come to Mount Zion, to the heavenly Jerusalem, the city of the living God. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, 23 to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the judge of all men, to the spirits of righteous men made perfect, 24 to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.

God loves his own and he takes care of those who trust him. When we really let this sink in and we really believe it, it will change our entire lives. To trust him means that we do not worry or fret over anything here on earth. It means that when things seem so bad that it could not get any worse, we trust God and he will see us through it. He may not take it away but he will see us through.

But too often we forget that Satan is also alive and well. He is powerful and he is the greatest deceiver that has ever been. He is the Father of lies and is a master at using them to convince people that God does not mean what he says or is unable to carry it through in our lives. Satan is referred to as the prince of this world and when he claimed that all the kingdoms were his, Jesus did not disagree.

This means that we should not be surprised to see wickedness, corruption, and all kinds of deceit in the government or in social and economic institutions. It should come as no surprise that he would use the so call “news media” or sports or the entertainment world to carry out his plans. His agenda is working every day.

While God has and does place limits on his powers, the devil still has a lot of control. But we cannot let him control our minds and our lives. The only way for us to keep this from happening is to trust and obey the God to whom we belong.

Heavenly Father I know that I am not alone in serving you but even if it should come to that, give me faith and strength to stand with you and right. I know at times you allow wickedness to seem to prevail in this world and often I do not understand why this is so. Give me faith to know that in the end your will is done because you have already won the victory over sin and death in Jesus Christ. Use me to encourage those who are struggling and those who are living in fear. Help me keep my eyes on Jesus and on things above. I humbly pray in his name.
