Daily Devotional: Psalms 104:27-30

Ps 104:27-30

27 These all look to you to give them their food at the proper time. 28 When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things. 29 When you hide your face, they are terrified; when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust. 30 When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the earth.

1 Peter 5:10-11

10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 11 To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.

If (since) God knows how to take care of the animals, both small and great, he can certainly take care of his own people. As we put our faith in him and seek to live for him, he opens his barn doors of blessing to provide all we need in life. He has promised to give us food and clothing when we put him and his ways first.

No matter what we face in life, he is there with us and will take care of us. This does not mean we will never face trials or hardships in life. In fact, Peter says that after we have suffered a short while, he will restore us and make us strong. If we never face trials or suffering, we will never grow to our spiritual potential. It is the problems that test our faith and give us reason to trust God even more.

Even though Abraham had shown his faith in so many ways over so many years, it was not until God told him to offer Isaac on the alter and he was willing to do so, that God said he now knew that he would do whatever was asked of him. He showed his faith, trust without reservation, by his obedience in an act that went against everything he desired or wanted to do; kill his own special son.

When we face things that are too big for us or things that test our limits and our abilities to understand, but we obey God anyway, we learn and make solid our faith in him, his word and his will for us. How do we manage all of the unusual things we face in our world today? How do we cope with the ungodly behavior of so many in our nation? How do we pray for leaders that are in favor of so many things we consider ungodly and immoral? We trust God and let him handle it.

Heavenly Father it is such joy to live in a land and nation that gives me so many freedoms in my life. I know there are some of your children that live in places that do not allow them to worship you freely. There are some that face persecution or even death if they are found serving you. I ask you to be with all of them and give them your strength and your grace. If there ever comes a time when my freedoms are taken away, give me faith to acknowledge Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Be with the leaders of our nation and our elections. I pray in Jesus name.
