Daily Devotional: Psalms 72:8-14

Ps 72:8-14

8 He will rule from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth. 9 The desert tribes will bow before him and his enemies will lick the dust. 10 The kings of Tarshish and of distant shores will bring tribute to him; the kings of Sheba and Seba will present him gifts. 11 All kings will bow down to him and all nations will serve him. 12 For he will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help. 13 He will take pity on the weak and the needy and save the needy from death. 14 He will rescue them from oppression and violence, for precious is their blood in his sight.

Col 1:21-23

21 Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. 22 But now he has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation- 23 if you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.

There have been several instances in recent history in our country that someone started a company that grew to the point it went public and then the board fired the person who started it in the first place. To me, this is sad. This person has devoted their life (and often their livelihood) to this venture, worked long and hard hours to make it successful and then has seen it all taken away.

Can you imagine how sad God must be at times when he looks at mankind that he created and sees how we have rejected him and “fired” him from our lives. Even those who seek to serve him are overcome by temptation at times and sin against him. No one is righteous, no not one. But what is God’s response to this?

Even while we were sinners and his enemies, he loved us so much he gave his Son whom he loved to die for our sin so we can be counted as righteous and live with him in eternity. Since God has so much invested in his children, do not ever think that he has forgotten us or will forsake us. By faith we are kept for eternity.

Heavenly Father I know I fail to always be what you want me to be. I say things I should not say. I do things I should not do. I am selfish at times instead of putting others ahead of my own concerns and feelings. There are things I plan to do but never seem to get done. I need your continued forgiveness. I need the wisdom, the strength and the self-control that only comes from your Holy Spirit living in me. Thank you for loving me and help me love others. I ask your blessings on the leaders of our nation and state. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
