Daily Devotional: Psalms 119:169-176

Ps 119:169-176                  Taw

169 May my cry come before you, O LORD; give me understanding according to your word. 170 May my supplication come before you; deliver me according to your promise. 171 May my lips overflow with praise, for you teach me your decrees. 172 May my tongue sing of your word, for all your commands are righteous. 173 May your hand be ready to help me, for I have chosen your precepts. 174 I long for your salvation, O LORD, and your law is my delight. 175 commands.

Rom 15:13-14

13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. 14 I myself am convinced, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, complete in knowledge and competent to instruct one another.

Learning to trust God when there is no logical reason to do so is what faith is really all about. When life doesn’t make sense and things happen that seem to be unfair, we plead with God to make things right (as we see things) but often we don’t see any response. How do we react to this? Do we give up on God, try to fix it all by ourselves or do we wait on the Lord? When disease hits us or our family, do we complain and let it turn us away from our Savior?

Jesus gave us an example for these situations. Remember how he had taught people to serve God and put him first. He had taught love and forgiveness, shown patience and compassion and deserved to be treated fairly. Yet, his closest friends deserted him in his hour of greatest need. The government did not give him a fair trial but rather condemned him to death for things he had not done. When he pleaded with his heavenly Father to take it all away, it had to face it anyway.

Peter said that Jesus kept entrusting himself to him who judges righteously and this was an example for us to follow. God knows best and will always do what is best for us. He has not promised to take away our sickness or pain but has said he will give us grace to endure. Death is not the worst that can happen to us but is our opportunity to leave all the problems of this life and be with the Lord.

Heavenly Father I love your word, your promises and the hope you give. At times life seems unfair. It hurts to have to be separated from those I love. It is painful to watch others suffer. It grieves me to see so many disregard you and your will for their lives. Help me keep my eyes focused on you and on heaven. Be with those who lead this nation and the other nations of this world. Help them open their eyes to see your wisdom and to deal justly and righteously. Use me to lead others to you and to encourage those who seek you. I pray in Jesus name.
